Sneezy Wheezy Beautiful Pollen Girl

It's officially spring time here in lovely Belgium. The birds are singing, the sun is (was) shining, the temperature has been rather enjoyable. So, what does that mean aside from being able to rock some flip flops and wear capris?

The flowers come into bloom.

For anyone who suffers from allergies, in all honestly, you'd probably die here in the spring. Especially those who have serious problems with pollen. Sure, you can take all sorts of medicines and what not, but I don't think you're understanding the severity of what I'm talking about. So, to help give you an idea, I took a picture of my Xterra for your viewing pleasure:

That's not dirt on the hood...that's pollen.

When I was looking at my windshield, there was this nice, thick layer all over it. I hopped in the truck, turned on the windshield wipers and I was AMAZED at all the junk that was swished around.

My whole truck looks fuzzy!

This all accumulated over about a two day period. Freaking ridiculous! I was at my friends house the other day and while we were sitting in her dining room (it looked out into the backyard), you could see TONS of pollen flying through the air with Dandy-Lion puffs floating around. It was kinda crazy since it looked like springs version of snow.

Mother Nature must've felt a little bad for dirtying up my wheels because she kinda said sorry by raining today. So, most of the pollen washed off except for a few spots..but hey, at least my truck doesn't look like a new spring chick!

Smells Like Belgian Spirit!

It's almost that time of year!

When we first got here back in 2009, we moved into our house and started to get settled in (around the same time frame). Since it had been a while since anyone lived in this house, it needed to be aired out (it smelled like cigarettes and "old"). I threw open all of the window to let some fresh air in, when in fact, turns out the air wasn't so fresh. In fact, it was gag-tastic!

The Belgians use this fertilizer concoction of pig, chicken, and yes, even human poo to spray all over the fields to help with their crops. Their crops are used to grow some impressive sized corn that they harvest as livestock feed, but due to the human poo poo in the mixture, they can't sell any of the veggies for human consumption. You know it's almost Spring time when you see these beastys rollin' through the countryside:

YES! You're reading that correctly! It says, "Simply the best SHIT"! I've told several people back home about these tankers, but they never really believe me cause, in all honesty, who would put something like that on their vehicle? Belgians, that's who.

So, we know that Spring is officially around the corner if these big boys are rollin' around town, especially if you're able to smell 'em. You know you've lived here (or in any sort of agricultural area) when you hear someone say "It's fertilizing time!"...which means "Be prepared to smell lots of shit for the next few weeks". Luckily it's not very warm right now, hahaa. I say that because the first year I experienced it, the weather was very humid when they started spraying the fields, so it's like the stench literally STUCK to you..it was awful!

The plus side of these stinky tankers; they definitely let you know Spring is near!
