Smells Like Belgian Spirit!

It's almost that time of year!

When we first got here back in 2009, we moved into our house and started to get settled in (around the same time frame). Since it had been a while since anyone lived in this house, it needed to be aired out (it smelled like cigarettes and "old"). I threw open all of the window to let some fresh air in, when in fact, turns out the air wasn't so fresh. In fact, it was gag-tastic!

The Belgians use this fertilizer concoction of pig, chicken, and yes, even human poo to spray all over the fields to help with their crops. Their crops are used to grow some impressive sized corn that they harvest as livestock feed, but due to the human poo poo in the mixture, they can't sell any of the veggies for human consumption. You know it's almost Spring time when you see these beastys rollin' through the countryside:

YES! You're reading that correctly! It says, "Simply the best SHIT"! I've told several people back home about these tankers, but they never really believe me cause, in all honesty, who would put something like that on their vehicle? Belgians, that's who.

So, we know that Spring is officially around the corner if these big boys are rollin' around town, especially if you're able to smell 'em. You know you've lived here (or in any sort of agricultural area) when you hear someone say "It's fertilizing time!"...which means "Be prepared to smell lots of shit for the next few weeks". Luckily it's not very warm right now, hahaa. I say that because the first year I experienced it, the weather was very humid when they started spraying the fields, so it's like the stench literally STUCK to you..it was awful!

The plus side of these stinky tankers; they definitely let you know Spring is near!
